Walking in the Confidence of God's Power
Scripture: Psalm 18:30-50 Pt.2
30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of
the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all who trust in him.
31 For, who is God, save the Lord? or who is a
rock save our God?
32 God girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.
33 He makes my feet like hinds' feet and sets me upon
my high places.
34 He teaches my hands to war, so my arms break a steel
bow.
35 Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation:
thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
36 Thou hast enlarged my steps so my feet did not slip
under me.
37 I have pursued mine enemies and overtaken them:
neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
38 I have wounded them so they could not rise:
they have fallen under my feet.
39 For thou hast girded me with strength unto the
battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose against me.
40 Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies;
that I might destroy them that hate me.
41 They cried, but there was none to save them: even
unto the Lord, but he answered them not.
42 Then did I beat them small as the dust before the
wind and cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
43 Thou hast delivered me from the people's strivings
and made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve
me.
44 As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the
strangers shall submit themselves unto me.45 The strangers shall fade away
and be afraid of their closed places.
46 The Lord lives and blessed be my rock and
let the God of my salvation be exalted.
47 It is God that avenges me and subdues the people
under me.
48 He delivered me from mine enemies: yea, thou lifted
me above those that rise against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent
man.
49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord,
among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and
shows mercy to his anointed, David, and his seed for evermore.
Walking in the Confidence of God's Power
"Victory is not achieved by our might but by leaning
on the One who has already won the battle." – Sherrie.
Psalm 18:30-50 is a powerful testimony of God's unfailing
faithfulness and the strength He provides to His children. Reading these verses
reminds me of times when the odds were stacked against me, but God’s power
carried me to victory.
David begins this psalm portion with a humbling and
empowering declaration: “As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord
is tried; He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him” (v. 30). I’ve had
seasons where I questioned the path before me—uncertainty clouded my vision,
and doubt whispered lies about my purpose. Yet, I found it unshakable when I
anchored myself in God’s Word.
I vividly remember one instance: I was leading a ministry
event with limited resources, and everything seemed to fall apart. As the
leader, I felt an overwhelming sense of inadequacy, like the walls of
responsibility were too high to climb. In those moments, I clung to the promise
of verse 32: “It is God that girds with strength and maketh my way perfect.”
God strengthened me to persevere and orchestrate events in
ways I couldn’t have planned. Volunteers showed up unexpectedly, provisions
came just in time, and lives were impacted beyond anything I could have
imagined. I saw firsthand what David meant when he said, “By my God, I have
leaped over a wall” (v. 29).
David also gives God the credit for every triumph. “Thou
hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden
me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great” (v. 35). This verse reminds me
that any success I’ve experienced is not because of my strength but because of
God’s gentle guidance and unwavering support.
In another challenging season, I felt like my external and
internal enemies were too strong for me. Fear, doubt, and discouragement loomed
like giants, but God reminded me of His promise: “Thou hast girded me with
strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against
me” (v. 39).
When I fully surrendered the battle to God, I watched Him do
what I could not. He delivered me from fear, silenced doubt, and gave me the
courage to move forward. Verse 46 became my anthem: “The Lord lives; and
blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.”
Call to Action
Are you facing a battle today? Remember that victory is not
achieved by your strength but by relying on God. Spend time this week
reflecting on how He has fought for you. Write down those testimonies and share
them with someone who needs to hear about the goodness of God. Meditate on
Psalm 18:30-50 and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal how these truths apply to your
current challenges.
Prayer
Our Father, which art in Heaven,
We thank You for being our Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer.
Your Word is perfect, and Your promises never fail. Teach us to lean on You and
not on our understanding. Strengthen us for our battles and remind us
that You go before us to secure victory. May our lives reflect Your glory, and
may we boldly proclaim, “The Lord lives; and blessed be my Rock.” We give You
all the praise and honor, for You are worthy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
